I’m so pleased to finally share that Sofia Samatar has purchased A Pentatonic Moon for the first issue of Interfictions, a new interstitial magazine. A Pentatonic Moon consists of five ancient Chinese poems, all about the moon and each written by a different Chinese poet (a total of 2 women and 3 men) who lived during the Tang Dynasty, over 1,000 years ago. After I co-translated these poems, I set the English text using the pentatonic scale to 5-part choral music for treble voices. It was also my honor to have the amazing San Francisco Choral Artists perform the first two (Moon and Moonlight) earlier this year. A Pentatonic Moon is one of my favorite creations of 2012, and I’m delighted it has found a home at Interfictions!
